‘Justified Replacement Of Lulu’ Out Now on Selador Recordings

SEL_018 PackshotAnd so, Selador hits 18 and comes of age with what is probably our biggest release to date. Originally released as part of the label’s Showcase compilation earlier this year, Dave Seaman’s wonderfully titled ‘Justified Replacement Of Lulu’ now gets a fully fledged release complete with a bumper package of remixes. Well, it would be rude not to, right?

The Original mix has already had some illustrious supporters, namely Hot Since 82, Edu Imbernon and Hernan Cattaneo who’ve championed it above and beyond the call of duty. Riding in all guns blazing atop a seductive, self serving bass line, the memorable ‘I Dream Of Home’ vocal refrain lingers long in the memory distinguishing itself from the plentiful deep house wannabes. It’s a modern day anthem and no mistake.

First in line on remix duty is one of this year’s breakthrough big shots, Cristoph, who’s fast becoming the go to remixer when you want the job doing right. Already a huge fan of the original, the big Geordie has captured all that was good about the track in the first place and subtly added his own distinct flavour. So tough and chunky, it could do the truffle shuffle.

Next up is the irrepressible Joeski who’s been having quite a resurgence this year, consistently gracing the higher echelons of the major Tech House charts with his exalted presence. All hard hitting deep beats that will knock you down in one and ask questions later, this is just the kind of self assured take you’d expect from a master of his sound. Wannabes take note, this is how it’s done.

Raxon then takes up the challenge with another classy reworking. The Dubai based producer who’s recently been illuminating such labels as Noir, Tronic and Culprit  with his particular brand of hypnotic Tech House sinks his teeth into the job and leaves his unmistakable mark. Uncompromising, detailed and precise, this does the necessary damage every time, no fuss, no bother.

And finally, step forward Mr Marc Marzenit to capably round things up in his own inimitable way delivering a melodic peak time workout that brings a welcome Techno slant to proceedings. The Spanish producer has been a long time favourite of our humble little label, and somehow we doubt this will be the last you’ll here from him via this portal. Always a honour to have him on our team.

And that’s it. No need to say anymore. Infact, there wasn’t really any need for any of the above if we’re honest. The music really does speak for itself on this occasion. Sorry about that ;-)

Selador Recordings. Loud and proud x

Robert Babicz ‘One Day We’ll All Be Happy’ EP – Out Now On Selador Recordings

babicz 2For episode fifteen in the ever snowballing Selador adventure we are very happy to welcome back to the fold, the one, the only Sir Robert of Babicz.

Having played such a central role in the label’s development over the last 12 months by blessing us with one of our best sellers in the exquisite ‘Rosegarden’ and delivering one of our finest remixes with his interpretation of Paul Rutherford’s ‘Get Real’, Robert now returns with 4 brand new original tracks that showcase the wide range of his masterful sound.

For our money, the lead track of this EP, the majestic  ‘One Day We’ll All Be Happy’ is one of Robert’s best for some time. Centered around one simple yet so devastatingly effective riff that rolls and rolls, round and round, working it’s way effortlessly into your subconscious. A monster by anyone’s standards!

Then its time to ramp up the intensity as Robert dons his 303 cap for some throbbing acid in the form of the aptly titled ‘Massive’. Already road tested heavily on his tour dates, this is the one that sends the dance floor into a real frenzy. Get ready for the breakdown people. Next up it’s time to get dark and dirty with another bad boy that goes under the name of ‘Turn Around My Friend’. Relentlessly rough ‘n ready and uncompromisingly bass heavy, one for the gold toof brigade innit!

And last but by no means least, we find Robert in lighter mood for the elegantly lilting sound of ‘Tonefabrik’. Bursting with balmy balearic flavours yet restrained, self assured and composed. A slice of serenity.

And there you have it. We’ll always remember meeting Robert for the first time on a car journey on our way to the same gig in deepest Turkey and when the driver asked what stye of music he played he simply replied, Babicz style!  Say no more.

Selador Recordings – Purveyors of the finest underground house and techno since forever!

‘Flatter To Deceive’ Out Now on Great Stuff

online_1400x1400_gsr_210_SEAMAN_NEWMy debut for long running German label Great Stuff entitled ‘Flatter To Deceive’ is now available in all fine digital retail emporiums with rising star, Seff on remix duties. The original is a tough slab of rolling tech house with African undertones and a roof raising drop while Seff takes a slightly sparser, housier route which is bound to please his growing legion of fans including Hot Since 82 and Mark Knight. If you’ve managed to catch me at any of my gigs over the last few month’s chances are you’ll have heard me play this. It’s the one with the jungle noises! Enjoy ;-)

Selador Sessions Volume 1 track list unveiled

In April 2013 Dave Seaman once again made mix compilation history. 24 years previously he had been the first DJ to mix a compilation CD, alongside Carl Cox to deliver Mixmag Live Volume 1. And in an area that has evolved countlessly since, stretched to breaking point in recent times, he proved not only the enduring interest in the art form but that it also could remain ground- breaking.

Putting his reputation, and that of his fledgling record label Selador Records founded with Steve Parry, on the line, Dave reached the funding target with 11 days to spare of the initial 28 day campaign through the crowd funding website Kickstarter. In the end, the total figure raised was £32,000, seven thousand more than the £25,000 needed to make this limited edition album. With the album now finished, Dave has begun embarking on delivering the rewards to those who pledged, including DJ lessons & private parties and was naturally elated and excited about the compilation:

“It was something out of my comfort zone, a bit of a risk and therefore fresh and exciting. Sometimes you just have to go out on a limb just to feel alive”, said Dave. “Continuing to make mix compilations in the traditional way was becoming to feel like I was just going through the motions. Plus, this was also a way of being able to give something back to my fans that had supported my compilations over the years by offering special rewards that just wouldn’t have been possible through the usual retail outlets.”

The mixes themselves reflect Dave and Selador’s current stylistic choices, with a focus on upfront twenty first century house music. Naturally the label and Dave’s own production output is represented, with five tracks from each, but there is also music from the finest imprints such as Crosstown Rebels, Hot Flush, Get Physical, Circus Recordings, Dirtybird, Systematic, Diynamic and Cocoon.

As you’d expect from a forward thinking idea, the producers involved are just as cutting edge. With CD1 opening via the abstract sonics of Alpines in Maribou State remix form, the rest of the disc weaves through the bleepy electronica of Dominik Eulberg, the deep techno of M.A.N.D.Y and Damian Lazarus and the warped tech house of Fairmont. CD2 offers further adventures through Gabriel Ananda and Scuba’s takes on melodic deep-house, Solomun’s noir-disco, the anthemic jackin’ sound of Breach and the gorgeous strung out percussive beauty that is ‘Hoyle Road’ from Pedestrian.

If there’s a more expertly crafted mix compilation this year, we’d like to hear it!

New Renaissance Masters compilation out soon

Masters Series packshotSo happy to announce that my next compilation, a new Renaissance Masters, is completed and due for release on October 10th. After a brief adjournment during a difficult time over the last year, it’s so good to have Renaissance back in the game just in time for their 20th anniversary next year. The planned celebrations are shaping up to be very special indeed. As for my album, I’m very proud to be the one asked to start this next chapter in the Renaissance story. I’m the only DJ to have been with them from the very start, through thick & thin, and this is my 12th album for them. I know a lot of you have you’re own personal favourite and I get many requests to recreate something similar to one of those old albums but they are of their own time & place. Going backwards is not something that interests me and is not what our scene is all about. I believe each album should try to capture the time of which they were made. So this compilation is strictly 2011. A veritable smorgasbord of electronic house. From deeper beginnings through to full on techno, I hope the blood, sweat & tears shine through. They bloody better do! ;-)Enjoy.
Dave
