Selador Reloads Volume 1 – Out Now

reloads_5bIt’s hard to believe that it’s only 12 months ago since we started work on the launch of Selador. Our first release, ‘Restless Dreams’ by Samu.l didn’t actually come out until mid April and we only have 8 releases under our belt since, but somehow it already feels like we’ve been doing this since forever.

So for release number nine, we decided it was a good time to take stock and clear the decks as it were.

Selador Reloads (see what we did there?) will be an occasional series of remixes from our back catalogue. These are not remixes that didn’t make it onto the respective releases because they weren’t good enough. Far from it. Mostly they were done after the event by special request of the remixers themselves. Robert Babicz thunderous reworking of Paul Rutherford’s ‘Get Real’ being a good case in point. When Robert got the promo of our release of the acid house classic with remixes by Darren Emerson, Just Be Bushwacka & Pete Gooding, he declared his love of the track, one of his all time favourites he said, and could he have a go at remixing it too? Well, does a bear do his proverbial business in the woods?! The result is what is known in clubland as an “absolute bomb”. Already a weapon of choice for John Digweed, Christian Smith & Josh Wink, Robert nails it with a heavy as kick drum & bass combination powering proceedings that is simultaneously respectful to the original whilst giving the whole thing a definite 2014 flavour. There are also Vocal & Dub versions from which to choose :-)

Coming up fast in Robert’s slipstream on this EP, is a new remix of Kucna Muzika’s ‘Feel It’. A popular track from our ADE Collection, this Serbian production duo’s debut gets a reworking from one of Selador’s new guys on the block, Seff. And what a fine job he does too. A groovily infectious houser that still revolves around the original’s bass and vocal hooks but gives the whole thing a much rawer feel. It’s not a major overhaul. It’s much more subtle than that. But it definitely does the trick. Hear for yourself and you’ll get what we mean.

Next up is the Thomas Tuft reworking of what was our third release, ‘Marionette’ by Rychard. Thomas is a king amongst men on the Slo Motion scene which he ably exhibits with this epic take that combines so many different flavours into one big melting pot of chunky nu disco. Floyd-esque guitar licks, soaring string swells, toms and cowbells-a-plenty, you name it, it’s all in there. Such an inventive arrangement, yet still with both feet firmly on the dance floor. We like this a lot and we think you will too.

And last but by no means least, wrapping up proceedings, we have the wonderful Of Norway boys interpretation of Robert Babicz’s own ‘Rosegarden’, another track lifted from last year’s ADE Sampler. Of Noway had been on our hit list of remixers for sometime but were all tied up recording their new album for Connoisseur but as soon as they wrapped that up, they were true to their word and were on our phone primed and ready for duty. It was most definitely worth the wait. They deliver a wonderfully organic interpretation that oozes class from every orifice. A real gem.

And there you have it, Selador Reloads. Another top drawer collection. As a wise man once said, “You don’t know where you’re at, ’til you know where you’ve been”. Word!  x

SEFF ‘Freestyle Fanatic EP’ Out now on Selador

SEFF_v2For the seventh release on our burgeoning Selador Recordings label we are pleased to welcome SEFF into the fold with a wonderful 3 track EP of big booming underground House music. SEFF aka Joe Saunders has been making quite a name for himself over the last year with releases on Steve Lawler’s Viva Music and his own Mindmaze Music imprint and his first full release for Selador has had no shortage of takers either. The likes Hot Since 82, Groove Armada, Cevin Fischer, Betoko, AFFKT and Kolombo have all pledged their support with all 3 tracks finding their way into the sets of the elite. The lead track ‘Freestyle Fantastic’ sets the bar high with it’s growling dirty synths and “On and on and on” vocal refrain, whilst ‘Listen’ goes deeper and darker and ‘Lost In The Underground’ heads into slightly wonkier territory. Quite simply, if raw underground house sounds are your bag then we’re sure you’ll find something to whet your whistle here. Without doubt, the boy Seff has a big, bright future.

World Radio Premiere of Selador Sessions mix

Dave Seaman’s critically acclaimed Selador Sessions Volume 1 compilation is to get its world radio premiere on Tuesday 17th December exclusively on Friskyradio.com The mix hasn’t been on sale anywhere and was only available to backers of Dave’s kickstarter campaign earlier in the year but now finally this is a chance to hear it if you missed out.

“I’ve had a lot people asking where they can buy it but it’s not been on sale. That was the point.”said Dave “to keep it limited edition and exclusive. But although they still can’t buy the album, we thought a chance for people to at least hear what they missed might spur them on to get involved next time I get around to doing another crowd funded album. Hint hint” ;-)

So, Tuesday 17th December straight after Dave’s regular Radio Therapy show at 9pm. It’s a one off deal. Don’t miss it.

Piemont ‘Give It Up’ E.P – Out now on Selador Recordings

SEL005 artworkBasking in the glory of love from the likes of Hot Since 82, Nic Fanciulli, Lee Burridge, Pirupa and Jozif,  Selador Recordings is pleased to unleash our fifth release on the world in the shape of Piemont’s ‘Give It Up’ EP.

The 4 tracker features two originals from the German production duo who have already appeared on the label with their remix of Han Haak’s ‘Jezebel’s Milk’ earlier in the year which is a track which also featured on my Selador Sessions compilation.

Firstly, the lead track ‘Give It Up’ is a funky little percussive house groove driven by a monster baseline and topped of with a simple but nagging vocal hook. There are also two fantastic remixes that come courtesy of Samu.l (another favourite of the label) who delivers a deep bass heavy workout and Stephan Hinz takes things into more melodic techno territory.

The second track, ‘So What’ is not just an added bonus either, it could easily be a lead track in it’s own right. It’s another that is typical of Piemont’s trademark sound and has been doing the business for me in my sets for the last couple of months.

Finally, I must say a big thank you to Iranian artist/designer Sajad Safajooee who supplied the ‘Green Traffic Lights’ artwork for this release. You can Follow, like, get in touch and see all his other works at https://www.facebook.com/sajjad.safajooee

So go pay him a visit :-)

Paul Rutherford ‘Get Real’ 2013 Remixes out now on Selador Recordings

SEL004 ArtworkThe 1988 release ‘Get Real’ by Paul Rutherford ranks amongst the most seminal of acid house classics. Highlighted by many as a one of the very best of the genre, with the likes of Josh Wink, Christian Smith, Danny Howells and Paul Woolford all ranking it amongst their all time favourites, here at Selador we felt it high time to resurrect this gem and bring it to the attention of the new generation. Needless to say, we had some of the very best production talent in the world queueing up to offer their remixing services but in the end, it was Darren Emerson, Just Be Bushwacka & Pete Gooding that secured the honour and the results are nothing short of remarkable. From Darren’s monster new techno remake to Bushwacka’s faithful rolling techy tribute and Pete’s contemporary deep melodic anthem, every interpretation has been handled with the upmost love and care. Selador Recordings are proud to present Paul Rutherford’s ‘Get Real’ 2013 style. Miss this at your peril!

Selador Sessions Volume 1 track list unveiled

In April 2013 Dave Seaman once again made mix compilation history. 24 years previously he had been the first DJ to mix a compilation CD, alongside Carl Cox to deliver Mixmag Live Volume 1. And in an area that has evolved countlessly since, stretched to breaking point in recent times, he proved not only the enduring interest in the art form but that it also could remain ground- breaking.

Putting his reputation, and that of his fledgling record label Selador Records founded with Steve Parry, on the line, Dave reached the funding target with 11 days to spare of the initial 28 day campaign through the crowd funding website Kickstarter. In the end, the total figure raised was £32,000, seven thousand more than the £25,000 needed to make this limited edition album. With the album now finished, Dave has begun embarking on delivering the rewards to those who pledged, including DJ lessons & private parties and was naturally elated and excited about the compilation:

“It was something out of my comfort zone, a bit of a risk and therefore fresh and exciting. Sometimes you just have to go out on a limb just to feel alive”, said Dave. “Continuing to make mix compilations in the traditional way was becoming to feel like I was just going through the motions. Plus, this was also a way of being able to give something back to my fans that had supported my compilations over the years by offering special rewards that just wouldn’t have been possible through the usual retail outlets.”

The mixes themselves reflect Dave and Selador’s current stylistic choices, with a focus on upfront twenty first century house music. Naturally the label and Dave’s own production output is represented, with five tracks from each, but there is also music from the finest imprints such as Crosstown Rebels, Hot Flush, Get Physical, Circus Recordings, Dirtybird, Systematic, Diynamic and Cocoon.

As you’d expect from a forward thinking idea, the producers involved are just as cutting edge. With CD1 opening via the abstract sonics of Alpines in Maribou State remix form, the rest of the disc weaves through the bleepy electronica of Dominik Eulberg, the deep techno of M.A.N.D.Y and Damian Lazarus and the warped tech house of Fairmont. CD2 offers further adventures through Gabriel Ananda and Scuba’s takes on melodic deep-house, Solomun’s noir-disco, the anthemic jackin’ sound of Breach and the gorgeous strung out percussive beauty that is ‘Hoyle Road’ from Pedestrian.

If there’s a more expertly crafted mix compilation this year, we’d like to hear it!
