Jaap Ligthart & Alice Rose ‘I Know Change’ Out Now on Selador Recordings

jaap ligthart_2It’s hard to believe that it will be exactly two years ago since we launched our beloved label. It really has flown by in the blink of an eye. And so, to mark the occasion of 24 successful months in business, we bring you release number 24. You could call it OCD behaviour but we like to think of it as symmetry ;-)

Step forward Mr Jaap Ligthart, a Dutchman who has been on our radar for some time now with a number of fantastic edits and reworkings but is now making the natural transition into original productions. Together with Ms. Alice Rose, a vocalist who’s pass credits include guesting on tracks for the likes of Gabriel Ananda and Eagles & Butterflies, they’ve created something rather special. ‘I Know Change’ is a sensuous piece of work. Deep House in the very real sense of the phrase.

And that is something that our remixers on this project have truly understood. Both Him Self Her and Show-B have delivered exquisite interpretations that give the whole package an overriding sense of class and quality.

Him Self Her keep things deep and moody with a restrained, atmospheric, sophisticated piece of work picking up plaudits from Nicolas Massayeff and Danny Daze through to Joeski and Hernan Cattaneo, whilst Show-B heads into slightly tougher territory encapsulated by some distinctive rollercoaster percussion effects that have already seen Maceo Plex, Ame, Dixon, Solomon, Sasha, Mano Le Tough & Adratique showing their support. And if all that wasn’t enough, they both deliver vocal free dubs too!

So then, just to recap, it’s hotter than Megan Fox in Agent Provocateur and cooler than a Polar Bear’s toenails. What’s not to like?

Yours blissfully,

The Selador Sect

Showcase Volume 2 Compilation (Part1) Out Now On Selador Recordings

selador showcase 2- part1Clear the decks. The second instalment of Selador’s Showcase series has landed.

Gathering together some familiar label favourites alongside an array of exciting new talent, the album features ten exclusive tracks from some of the artists that will be spearheading the label over the coming months. And being the kind, considerate souls we are, we’ve split the album up into two easily digestible parts. The first of which is out on March 23rd.

Part 1 gets off to a flying start with the inimitable Piemont. The German duo have been stalwarts of the label from the very beginning and it’s great to have them back with a brand new original track. Entitled ‘You’, this little gem dishes up wave upon wave of classy house textures. It’s stylish and assured, effortlessly smooth and unmistakably Piemont. Just the way we like it.

Next in line it’s our great pleasure to welcome Third Son to our roster. The young Welsh wizard has been steadily make a name for himself with releases on Noir Music, Material & Suara amongst others and we’re very happy to be adding Selador to that impressive list. ‘How I Feel’ is a hypnotic slice of tech house. Dark and chilling in all the right places, it powers along with all the swagger of a young gun slinger. Fire!

Portuguese born, Berlin based producer Joal follows up his successful Climbers remix for the label next with the first of a handful of original productions we have lined up from him. ‘Tomorrow’ is a captivating piece of modern deep house which commandeers more than it’s fair share of otherworldly magic. Spell binding stuff.

Another new name we welcome into the fold, Jaap Ligthart weighs in next with ‘Tour De Jours’. A wonderfully restrained sophisticated serving of deep house that steadily creeps up on your when you least expect it, this serves as a prequel to his first fully fledged release for the label which is currently in the scheduling queue patiently waiting its turn. A tasty taster if you will ;-)

And finally for Part 1, Berlin based Justin Massei returns after his debut on the first Showcase compilation with ‘Tell Them’, a solid gold specimen of proper house music. Full of infectious energy, driven by relentless synth stabs and employing a cheeky wee vocal sample, we dare you not to dance to this.

So then, 5 more beauties with which to impress your friends and generally elevate your social status.

Part 2 follows next week. Stand by.

Selador Recordings – 50 shades better than all the rest. Come and get some ;-)

Robert Babicz ‘One Day We’ll All Be Happy’ Remixes EP Out Now On Selador Recordings

babicz remix Ep Packshot 1500Calling all Seladorians. Hear the battle cry once again. We’re back with more weapons for your armoury.
Yes, Selador’s second instalment of electronic goodness for 2015 comes courtesy of the man who’s made more contributions to the label than any other artist, the one, the only, Robert Babicz.
Following his widely acclaimed One Day We’ll All Be Happy EP on Selador last year, we now proudly present Part 2: The Remixes, as four esteemed producers get to grips with a track each and serve up their own interpretations of Sir Robert’s originals.
First out of the blocks is thriving Spanish producer Affkt with his take on the lead track. Driven by some bad ass beats and drenched in soaring melodies, this one bursts at the seams with uplifting energy. A home run.
Following Affkt is Bristolian producer Dubspeeka with a classy techno workout of ‘ToneFabrik’ which features an almighty, Empire State size kick drum and digs deeper than a multi national oil conglomerate. No wonder he’s becoming so highly sought after.
Next up it’s the legendary King Unique takes up the mantle working his magic on the original bad boy track, ‘Turn Around My Friend’. As you’d expect, the result is a sound clash of heavyweight proportions. Head to head, toe to toe, pound for pound..  a clear knock out!
And finally, it’s left to French outfit Melokolektiv to tackle ‘Massive’ and they do so with aplomb. Almost unrecognisable from Robert’s original, they turn the track on it’s head with a much deeper approach but one which still retains enough energy to maintain it’s main room status. Tasty.
So, 4 by 4 then, something to suit all weathers and terrains. Don’t you dare say we don’t spoil you ;-)
Over & out.

‘Justified Replacement Of Lulu’ Out Now on Selador Recordings

SEL_018 PackshotAnd so, Selador hits 18 and comes of age with what is probably our biggest release to date. Originally released as part of the label’s Showcase compilation earlier this year, Dave Seaman’s wonderfully titled ‘Justified Replacement Of Lulu’ now gets a fully fledged release complete with a bumper package of remixes. Well, it would be rude not to, right?

The Original mix has already had some illustrious supporters, namely Hot Since 82, Edu Imbernon and Hernan Cattaneo who’ve championed it above and beyond the call of duty. Riding in all guns blazing atop a seductive, self serving bass line, the memorable ‘I Dream Of Home’ vocal refrain lingers long in the memory distinguishing itself from the plentiful deep house wannabes. It’s a modern day anthem and no mistake.

First in line on remix duty is one of this year’s breakthrough big shots, Cristoph, who’s fast becoming the go to remixer when you want the job doing right. Already a huge fan of the original, the big Geordie has captured all that was good about the track in the first place and subtly added his own distinct flavour. So tough and chunky, it could do the truffle shuffle.

Next up is the irrepressible Joeski who’s been having quite a resurgence this year, consistently gracing the higher echelons of the major Tech House charts with his exalted presence. All hard hitting deep beats that will knock you down in one and ask questions later, this is just the kind of self assured take you’d expect from a master of his sound. Wannabes take note, this is how it’s done.

Raxon then takes up the challenge with another classy reworking. The Dubai based producer who’s recently been illuminating such labels as Noir, Tronic and Culprit  with his particular brand of hypnotic Tech House sinks his teeth into the job and leaves his unmistakable mark. Uncompromising, detailed and precise, this does the necessary damage every time, no fuss, no bother.

And finally, step forward Mr Marc Marzenit to capably round things up in his own inimitable way delivering a melodic peak time workout that brings a welcome Techno slant to proceedings. The Spanish producer has been a long time favourite of our humble little label, and somehow we doubt this will be the last you’ll here from him via this portal. Always a honour to have him on our team.

And that’s it. No need to say anymore. Infact, there wasn’t really any need for any of the above if we’re honest. The music really does speak for itself on this occasion. Sorry about that ;-)

Selador Recordings. Loud and proud x

Melokolektiv ‘Polaroid EP’ Out Now On Selador Recordings

Melokolektiv SEL014 packshotYou lucky people! The next dispatch from Selador HQ is here and this time comes courtesy of highly regarded French production duo, Melokolektiv. Following recent releases for such respected labels as Crosstown Rebels & Get Physical, Selador are now proud to present a lovingly crafted 4 track EP of class and quality that effortlessly straddles the genres and cements their ever growing reputation as one of the foremost leaders of the new school.

First out of the blocks is the sinister ‘Polaroid’ with it’s hypnotising lead line all drugged up to the eyeballs and basking in raw simplicity. Don’t believe Girls Aloud, this is what the real sound of the underground sounds like! ;-)

The baton then gets passed to ‘Left Out’ for a brooding slice intense darkness that will no doubt  bring the likes of Berghain to it’s knees and have trainspotters everywhere wetting their knickers. Shazam that people!

‘Safari’ is next to step up continuing with the off-kilter drugged up vibes. Opening with layers emotive pads before unfolding into a killer mood setting groove. A stall setting intro track if ever there was one.

And finally bringing home the bacon on the final straight, it’s the moody menace of ‘Oxygen’ with it’s eerie synth beds and seductive bass line that rides on a housier vibe all the way to the finish line taking both tape and glory.

In conclusion, the Selador soundbite department says… A medal winning EP guaranteed to put you on the podium!

Though management prefer.. Dark, deep & dirty. Just the way we we like it ;-)

Over & Out.
