My Interview with Decoded Magazine

Dave Press 2Just ahead of the release of my latest mix compilation I had a chat with the guys at Decoded Mag talking about Berlin, the album making process and the general quality of music being released today…

The release of Beyond Borders 2, sees you choose Berlin as the inspiration for this compilation, can you give us an insight into why you chose this particular city?

After ‘King Unique’ had chosen London as the first city in this new series earlier in the year I started to think of some of the other most influential destinations in Electronic Music. New York and Barcelona crossed my mind and then Chicago for it’s heritage, plus of course, Ibiza. But I’d just been back to Berlin for the first time in a few years and it reminded of just what a creative city it is and how much quality underground music continually comes out of there, so in the end, it was an obvious choice.

With regards to putting this together, how did you approach compiling the tracks and the order in which you sequence them in the mix?

I wanted to make sure that the album had a distinct Berlin flavour so made sure to include lots of artists and labels from the city. I think I’ve managed to do that. And there’s a good balance of new and familiar names. I also wanted to use some of the big tracks from my gig at Suicide Circus in the summer so the album had a particular time and place attached to it. Another thing I decided was that I wasn’t going to worry to much about everything having to be new and exclusive. There was a time when that was an important factor for me when doing a mix CD but one thing we’re not short of these days is a supply of new music! Plus, in a few months time when none of the music will be new anymore, it’s the quality and longevity that ultimately really counts.  (more…)

My latest interview with DMC World magazine

Dave a huge welcome back to DMCWORLD…where on planet earth are you right now? I’m at home in the rather grey and drizzly rural Easy Midlands of England. Winter is starting to strengthen it’s grip :-(  How’s Ibiza Dan? Jealous, much!

The first piece of music you heard this morning after leaping out of bed? The new Mercury Rev album ‘The Light In You’. Beautiful stuff to ease you into the day.

Your most excellent year continues at pace, this time we are all over a release that Armada Music are really excited about too, your ‘Beyond Borders : Berlin’…a real underground journey from one of the most important dance music cities in the world. How and when did this project spring into life? King Unique did the first edition of this new compilation series earlier this year and as the outlets to do physical CD compilations have been shrinking, I was straight on the phone to Armada offering my services to do the next one 😉 Mix CDs have been a big part of my career over the last 25 years and it’s a tradition I’m keen to continue. Berlin sprang to mind as the obvious choice from which to base the album after I did a couple of gigs there over the summer and I wanted the album to give a flavour of a particular place rather than some generic set that could have come from anywhere. Nearly all of the music was either stuff i played at those gigs or is by producers and artists that are based in the city, so there’s a real connection there.  (more…)

Marc DePulse ‘My Daily Keys’ (Dave Seaman Remix) out now on Jeahmon Records

JEAHMON!011My new remix for esteemed German producer Marc DePulse is out now on his own Jeahmon Records entitled ‘My Daily Keys’. His original was a beefy piano based house track which I tried to turn into a slightly glitchier tech houser by taking the original’s midi parts and changing the lead sounds. I’m really pleased with the result and very happy to get such lovely feedback from the likes of Marc Marzenit, Betoko, Denney, Darin Epsilon, CID Inc, Piemont & Raxon to name just a few. Hope you like it too :-)
