How I Met The Bass Podcast #14

Unknown“When Marc Depulse invited me to take part in his HOW I MET THE BASS series, where DJs and producers relate some of their early influences in dance music, I decided to bypass the halcyon days of acid house, which is ground I’ve covered many times before, and go even further back. This mix spans the mid 1980s and features some the anthems of my youth. From the electro of my breakdancing days to the proto-house of my early clubbing adventures and my obsession with the New York nightlife of the time, this is How I Met The Bass. Hope you like it”  Dave

OUT NOW: Tom Peters’ ‘Two Of Us / Restless’ on selador recordings

rsz_tom_peters-2bAs February 29th only comes around every four years, we thought it befitting of this latest fleeting appearance to celebrate with yet another fine release from our burgeoning Selador stable. Be rude not to, right?

And what better way than with the label debut of Mr Tom Peters. German born, Berlin based, Tom has already released music through such esteemed channels as German heavyweight labels, Kompakt & Get Physical and so naturally, we’re very pleased he’s decided to add Selador to his already impressive résumé.

Featuring two very different but equally strong original productions, the tribal tech of ‘Two Of Us’ with it’s wonky synth surges and sensuous vocal inflections to the more forceful peak time techno flavourings of ‘Restless’. It really is a double header not to be missed.

On remixing assignments, rising German star, Tim Engelhardt sprinkles his own magic dust over ‘Two Of Us’ whilst Mexican duo Climbers step up to the plate with a stonking interpretation of ‘Restless’. Basically, it’s a win win situation. Just the way we like it.

So.. Happy Leap Day everyone. Don’t say we didn’t spoil you 😉

OUT NOW: Debut vinyl release from Selador Recordings By Robert Babicz

selador 12_ label artwork backAnd so, a little short of our third birthday here at Selador, it feels like we’ve finally made it. No longer pretenders to the throne, we are now like a proper, authentic, fully fledged record label as we reach the holy grail of our very first vinyl release. A momentous occasion for sure. You can speak to “our people” from now on 😉

Like all good ‘rights of passage/coming of age’ stories, it’s been some time in the making. As you can imagine, a milestone of this importance was not to be taken likely and so we decided to call upon one of our star players, Sir Robert Of Babicz to take the leading role.

The signing of these two original tracks, ‘Red’ & ‘Green’ was something of a coup as several other labels also fought for their attention but we like to think common sense prevailed as the big man bestowed upon us the honour of their custody. We were proud as the proverbial punch.

Robert is also aided and abetted here by two of Western Europe’s brightest electronic music lights, the 8 Bit boss, Gorge and the stylish French duo, Villanova who in turn add their own spice to proceedings. It’s a very special release all round. One to cherish.

Habischman ‘The Way’ EP out now on Selador Recordings

habischman-2Following his superb remix on Quivver’s ‘Wait For You’ for Selador last summer, Iman Habibi aka Habischman makes his fully fledged artist debut on Dave Seaman & Steve Parry’s imprint with a four track Extended Player fit for a king.
The Iranian born Berlin resident has been making some tidal sized waves recently with releases on the likes of Moda Black, Noir Music, Steyoyoke & Booka Shade’s Blaufield and in our humble, if slightly biased opinion, this release is positively tsunami-esque.

From the irresistible depth of the title track to the pulsating dramatics of ‘All I Dream’ and the shimmering zeitgeist house of ‘Skin’ to the seductive bounce of ‘Dub Rumors’, we are ticking ticking boxes, left, right & centre here. All bases covered. Home run.
Team Selador – Pitch perfect

Cristoph ‘Foregone Conclusion’ EP out now on Selador incl. Dave Seaman Remix

christoph_2Hello again and a huge Seladorian sized Happy New Year to one and all. After what was a momentous 2015 for us here at Selador Towers, we’re now primed and ready to make this year even bigger and better. Here to prove it, starting as we mean to go on, is our first release of 2016.

As regular receivers of our music you should already be familiar with the Forgone Conclusion EP by label fave, Cristoph which we released last summer and you may also remember that somewhat unusually for us, the release came with no remixes. Well, we thought it was about time we put that right. And so, in all it’s remixed glory, here is the Forgone Conclusion EP – Part Two.

First up a producer that has been making plenty of noise recently with his releases on the likes of Suara & Noir, the one and only, Kiko. The Frenchman tackles the lead track in his own inimitable signature style, overflowing with zest and prime time intensity. The sound of a man at the top of his game.

Next our very own Dave Seaman returns a favour after Cristoph remixed Dave’s ’Naughty Forest’ release a little over a year ago and our head honcho does us proud on ‘Digging In’. Main room melodics with just a touch of wonk, it’s a belter and no mistake.

Then, it’s the turn of Kevin Over on ‘Moments’ who throws off the shackles of his trademark basement house sound and dons his alternative cap to embark on a journey of dark acidic retro flavoured electronica. Heads down for some proper left of centre gear.

And finally, fashionably late to the party, we welcome Lonya. The resident DJ of the the legendary Cat & Dog club in Tel Aviv gives his deep atmospheric Techno take on ‘Time For Change’. A brooding slab of darkness for those late night floors.

So there you have it, Cristoph and friends, prepared in 4 very different flavours to suit every palate. Tasty business, whichever way you slice it.

Selador Recordings – yum-yum!
