It’s that time of year again. Time for the annual assessment of the year gone by. Time to celebrate what’s been great about the last 12 months. 2010 has had it’s fair share of ups and downs but, as always, there has been some distinguished and inspirational contributions from the world of music and film. Here’s some of my own favourites I’d like to share. Starting with my Top Ten singles…
As the end draws nigh, Timo Garcia & Gus One are the latest dynamic duo to come over to the dark side and flex their muscles on the Audio Therapy roster. ‘Quetzal’ is a cover of the Underground Resistance classic by Los Hermanos. A huge slice of melodic techno that is sure emote, delight and inspire in equal measures. Additionally, the pair have thrown in the throbbing Soul to Soul inspired ‘Sold Your Soul’ for good measure. How very thoughtful. Yes, Christmas has come early my friends! Enjoy x
Originally from Canada but now residing in beautiful Melbourne Australia, producer Timothy Allan has been popping up on our radar quite a bit recently with his acclaimed remixes of Empire Of The Sun, Seaman & Funkagenda and Dirty South. So much so, we decided it was high time we invited him to hop aboard our merry bus of acid house revelry and join the Therapy fold. He duly obliged and above and beyond the call of duty, he has done us proud with a couple of storming cuts that have been two of our very own Dave Seaman’s secret weapons in recent weeks. ‘Pony Up’ is a genre straddling peak timer driven by an hypnotic percussive riff and featuring a couple of explosive drops whilst ‘Bring It Back’ is a barnstorming slice of main room tech house that weaves it’s way to yet another dancefloor destroying payoff. Seriously guys, these are not to be missed. Our casa es su casa!
For further evidence, check out this little vid of Mr Seaman playing Pony Up in Mexico recently…
Funkagenda “I have always been a fan of Dave’s work and I think this collab with Josh sums up his style perfectly. Progressive + twisted yet undeniably groovy… A great festival track!”
Sasha “It’s a dirty monster!”
Paolo Mojo “Sounds Like a big ‘un”
After the success of last year’s “Heyaah”, Dave Seaman and Josh Gabriel have returned with another exotic slice of progressive techno in the form of “Vorahnung”. Named after the German term for “premonition”, this future classic revolves around a thoroughly analog melody that is both haunting and deeply moving. Its rhythms blur through syncopations that fuse triplets with rough-hewn tribal inflected beats, resulting in a groove that is mindboggling in its complexity. With full support from superstars like Sasha, Steve Angello, and Funkagenda, “Vorahnung” has been dominating clubs and festivals since its initial promo in September.
Synthesizer visionary and tech guru Francis Preve delivers one of the funkiest remixes of his career, transforming the original chords into a massive tech house stomper, complete with wailing sirens and the monster low-end throb that is swiftly becoming his trademark. This mix is destined to be one of the big room house hits of the season.
Egostereo’s remix is a punchy and dark progressive tour-de-force with enough whipcrack twists and turns to keep even the most demanding floors writhing in anticipation of where it will go next. Expect to hear this mix at peak floor moments in the coming months.
Preve protege and Different Pieces upstart, William A, returns with a deep tech-prog reinterpretation that’s the perfect compliment to those hazy afterhours events where up is down and anything goes.
Rounding out the remix package, Different Pieces’ latest discovery – The Secret Panda Society – turns in another dubstep knockout that further pushes the boundaries of everyone’s favorite new genre. Like a hammer to the chest, the Panda’s mix extends the sonic versatility lurking within Seaman and Gabriel’s latest brainchild.
