Hello there and an exceedingly warm welcome to my brand new website. It’s a veritable digital hub they tell me. Fully integrated with Twitter, MyFace & Spacebook no less. We’ve got Soundcloud, we’ve got Flickr and even the old perennial favourite YouTube. All sorted for ease and schizz. Oh yes, no expense spared I tell thee.
The old site, launched in 2003, had stood the test of time well, although rather harshly, I was told it’s “back end” was old and tired (I know how it felt ! ). And so, in the name of progress, I succumbed to the inevitable. Out with the old, in with the new. Get involved. Let’s go>
With releases on the likes of Brique Rouge, Underwater, Lot 49 and CR2, it’s no surprise that Jamie McHugh’s productions are getting some major attention from an array of DJ’s. His music is hitting a huge cross section of people from Laurent Garnier to Sasha and has seen him remixing the likes of Josh Wink and Tom Pooks as well as collaborating with Darren Emerson.
The original mix of ‘Wrong’ is centred around a big fat full on rolling bassline that drives the track from start to finish with a really swung and groovy feel to it. On the remix front we have 4 excellent remixes, Harvey McKay of Soma Records fame uses the bass sound to its full potential creating a darker and more twisted version. Jesus Gonsev adds some luscious pad sounds to his remix which takes us on an all round deeper trip sounding like something Underworld would have done back in the day. The remix from Kink is a much more percussive influenced mix giving off a much techier vibe than the other mixes. Last and by no means least is the remix from Faceless which is on a much housier tip again with added depth from some nice string stabs with lots of fills and drops that should work well on the floor.
Another quality package with a version for everyone. We hope you enjoy.

Q.The Masters Series has become a real spiritual home for you. With all the constant changes in dance music did you adapt your approach to this latest volume?
A.Not really no. My original 1991 mix compilation manifesto stands true to this day. For me, it’s still all about throwing the metaphorical net out as far and wide as possible and sifting through the catch to find only the finest, tastiest specimens. Then, strive to take the seasonal ingredients and blend them into a delicious two course banquet, served with taste, texture and colour and presented with unparalleled attention to detail into one exquisitely paced feast to remember. As Bruce Hornsby once very astutely observed, “Somethings will never change”. Hahaha….. Read the rest of this entry »
An interview done for the Black & Blue event in Montreal……
1-How was your experience at Black and Blue last year?
It was one of the highlights of 2008 for me. Nothing short of breathtaking. That many people in one room is some spectacle. I wouldn’t be human if I couldn’t admit it made the hairs stand up on the back of my neck.
2-How did you react when BBCM reinvited you for the same event, two years in a row?
I was really surprised but very happy. It’s an honour to come back again for the second year in a row. Read the rest of this entry »
My long time friend Austin Wilde has written an amazing book on bereavement called ‘My Dad’s deader than your Dad’. Very powerful & touching and also very funny at times, it’s written with the kind of verve that anyone who knows Austin would automatically expect. And as if that wasn’t enough, just to make you even more acutely aware of your own inadequacies, he’s a very talented artist and photographer too. Check out his website here…
My latest release, a collaboration with the very talented Josh Gabriel is now out and has been receiving some lovely warm reactions. Here’s some of the reviews…

An article from a recent issue of DJ Mag on the state of the art of DJing to which I gave my crucial insights (or so i like to kid myself).

Renaissance Masters Vol 14 out now…
October 20th, 2009 by DaveUnfortunately, this is not the case. Every single project presents a new set of challenges as the quest for the Holy Grail of the perfect compilation never subsides. Unlike podcasts or live sets, the making of a ‘physical’ (sic) album has a certain kudos. Something to stand the test of time. Something tangible. Something special. It becomes more of a test to see how far you can use technology to create an ‘audio collage’. How far you can take the art of mixing. One coherent piece. It’s so much more than blending a series of tracks together.
This is the reason these CDs take so bloody long to make. Like a sculptor chipping away for hours on end to achieve the fine detail. Every single track on this double disc extravaganza has been edited in some shape or form for the greater good of the overall flow of the mix. Some radically, some much more subtlely. But the care and attention to detail that goes into these things hopefully shines through. It took blood, sweat and tears.
I hope you enjoy the ride.
