Global Underground Lithuania Compilation

by Dave

So the cat’s finally out of the bag. We’ve crossed the ‘t’s and dotted the ‘i’s. The deal has been done. My next mix compilation for Global Underground will be #39Lithuania. It’s nine years ago since my last GU CD, #22 Melbourne and eleven since my first, #12 Buenos Aires but don’t call it a comeback because somehow, it doesn’t really feel like I’ve ever been away.

Having already covered all three Southern hemisphere continents on my previous GU releases we felt it was high time we chose a European destination and after much debate and deliberation we settled on one of the most exciting and vibrant places to DJ in the world right now, Exit in Lithuania. It’s been the jewel in the Eastern European clubbing crown for a few years and as anyone who’s been lucky enough to attend one of these infamous parties will tell you, that original acid house spirit pumps through it’s veins.

GU will touch down in Lithuania on July 24th at the Exit Summer Residence in Palanga on the Baltic Sea and the compilation inspired by that night will be released in September. The Global Underground story continues…

Renaissance Masters Vol 14 out now…

by Dave

REN_MAS_DaveSeaman_SleeveThe Masters Series Volume 14 is my 11th CD for Renaissance and my 26th mix compilation in total. I actually did the very first commercially released mix CD, Mixmag Live Volume 1 (alongside Carl Cox) back in 1991, so I suppose I should have got the hang of it by now.

Unfortunately, this is not the case.  Every single project presents a new set of challenges as the quest for the Holy Grail of the perfect compilation never subsides. Unlike podcasts or live sets, the making of a ‘physical’ (sic) album has a certain kudos. Something to stand the test of time. Something tangible. Something special. It becomes more of a test to see how far you can use technology  to create an ‘audio collage’.  How far you can take the art of mixing. One coherent piece.  It’s so much more than blending a series of tracks together.

This is the reason these CDs take so bloody long to make. Like a sculptor chipping away for hours on end to achieve the fine detail.  Every single track on this double disc extravaganza has been edited in some shape or form for the greater good of the overall flow of the mix. Some radically, some much more subtlely. But the care and attention to detail that goes into these things hopefully shines through. It took blood, sweat and tears.

I hope you enjoy the ride.
